In the Norwegian wilderness, a family seeks a free and wild existence, but a tragic turn of events breaks their isolation and forces them to adapt to the demands of contemporary society. I watched this film at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. A very interesting and emotional documentary about a Norwegian family living in the wild, with very emotional interviews and conversations with the main participants and a sweet and tender observation of a family dealing with grief, life in the wild, and growing up in the social world . Filmmaker Silje Evensmo Jacobsen does a very good job of documenting the family’s journey, as Jacobsen’s direction and approach to the subject felt sweet and tender to watch. I really felt touched and connected to the family. I can’t imagine how hard it is to leave a home behind because of a tragedy. Each of the children was really sweet and adorable to watch and I really felt bad for the whole family. The film also has gorgeous camera work and also shows how beautiful Norway really is. Even though the pacing could be improved a bit, I really enjoyed and connected with this documentary. It’s like Captain Fantastic but more impactful. One of my favorite documentaries of the festival.
